In 1962 “Smog” became the first European film shot on location in Los Angeles. Directed by Franco Rossi, written by Gian Domenico Giagni and Pier Maria Pasinetti and starring Annie Girardot and Enrico Maria Salerno (“Rocco and his Brothers), it’s a haunting existential road movie through the city in its modernist adolescence. It was also a “film maudit” which would disappear from view after its screening at the Venice Film Festival - until its recent re discovery and restoration. My video essay
